PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of reproducing erroneous data when a track width is narrowed, since in a magnetic disk device, the positions of a magnetic head during recording and reproducing are regulated for recording or reproducing operations based on deviations from set target positions in respective cases. SOLUTION: By writing the head position information when data are recorded, on a disk surface, and reproducing this position information during data reproducing, deviation between the center position of recorded data and the center position of the head during reproducing is detected. When this deviation is equal to or higher than a predetermined value, the reliability of the data is secured by discarding the reproduced data. Further, optimal offset for retrial is obtained by using the detected deviation, and the data are restored early.
