Electric motor actuator for a motor vehicle gearbox is mounted inside the selector drum

The electric motor actuator (602) for a motor vehicle gearbox is located within the selector drum (601) to save space. A gearbox comprises gear actuating device with a gear selector drum and drive motor. The drum has operating elements, such as selector forks, preferably on its outer circumference and produces gear changes through rotation of the drum. The drive motor lies at least partly inside the drum. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) an arrangement as above having a harmonic drive to give a higher gear ratio when controlling the selector forks; and (b) an electric motor member as above for controlling a motor vehicle operating mechanism or brake.
