An imaging method comprising the steps of applying light from a light emitting means (4) to an object (S) to be imaged consisting of a first portion (d1) serving as a design (2) and printed on a side surface (1A) of a cardboard box and a second portion (d2) serving as identification symbols (3) such as manufacturing date, month, year and attached to the former, and receiving the applied light by a light receiving means (5) to image the object (S), wherein a reflectance of near infrared light on the object (S) is set to be different at the first portion (d1) and the second portion (d2), and light beamed from the light emitting means (4) includes a near infrared region component that is then received by a light receiving means (5) and used for imaging. Accordingly, identification symbols are accurately detected and recognized without being mixed up with base printing even in the presence of dark base printing on a symbol-printing surface.
