PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excavating device and method capable of excavating the ground while efficiently crushing stones in the excavated portion of the ground. SOLUTION: The excavating device 1 is constructed principally of a cylindrical casing 10, an auger screw 20 disposed within the casing 10, and a driving motor (not shown) for rotating the auger screw 20 about its axis. The casing 10 includes a casing body 11 and a casing end 13. A bevel gear 30 for inverting and transmitting the torque of the auger screw 20 to the casing end 13 is provided and the auger screw 20 and the casing end 13 are rotated in opposite directions.
