SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device has a composite body of a polymer 13 and liquid crystal drops 14 held between a pair of substrates 11 having transparent electrodes 12 formed inside. The liquid crystal device is manufactured in such a manner that the average angle θp of the liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal drops 14 from the direction parallel to the substrates 11 ranges from 17 to 35.5. To satisfy the above relation, the liquid crystal drops are deformed or a magnetic field is applied when the liquid crystal is precipitated and separated.
