PURPOSE: To perform stop operation control of a DC motor for carrying a recording medium at high speed while enhancing the stop position accuracy. CONSTITUTION: Stop operation of a DC motor 102 is controlled through an ASIC 104 comprising a section 105 for detecting the position of a recording medium 1 by counting the edge of an encoder signal 103, a register 108 for setting the stop position of the recording medium 1, a register 109 for setting the output from the DC motor 102 at the time of stoppage, a section 115 for comparing the position of the recording medium 1 detected at the position detecting section 105 with the stop position set at the stop position setting register 108, and a PWM switching section 111 for selectively switching the output from a CPU (servo operating section) 106 and the output from the PWM setting register 109 at the time of stoppage.
