摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device permitting reduction in power consumption by using a driving circuit and pixels having a new circuit configuration. SOLUTION: In the electro-optical device for displaying a video using a digital video signal of n bits (n is a natural number >=2), each pixel has (n×m) pieces (m is a natural number) of volatile memory circuits, and (n×k) pieces (k is a natural number) of non-volatile memory circuits, and has a function of storing digital video signals for m frames in the volatile memory circuits and a function of storing digital video signals for k frames in non-volatile memory circuits. To display a still picture, the device repeatedly reads the digital video signals stored once in the memory circuits to perform displaying in each frame, and is thereby able to halt driving a source signal driving circuit for that time. Moreover, since the digital video signals stored in the non-volatile memory circuits are stored even after the power is switched off, they can be displayed immediately when the power is switched on again.
