PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaft extension mounted to a crankshaft for enabling the crankshaft of an electric motor driven air compressor to be extended axially for engagement with an outer rotary bearing. SOLUTION: The electric motor driven air compressor 10 includes a bearing plate 16, an inner rotary bearing, and a crankshaft 12. The air compressor further includes an electric motor 18. The electric motor has a stator frame 20, a stator 22 and a rotor 24. The air compressor further includes a stator frame, a stator, and an outer rotary bearing 42 positioned axially outward of the rotor. The shaft extension 38 includes an extension member with a major extension axis and a minor axis approximately perpendicular to the major axis, and a connecting mechanism 44 for connecting the extension member to the end of the crankshaft.
