PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for safely producing an N,N,N',N'- tetrasubstituted amidinium salt in a short time, of by using a secondary amine and carbon disulfide of which the both are safe and easy to handle, to provide a method for producing an N,N,N',N'-tetrasubstituted diaminocarbene, and a method for producing a transition metal complex coordinated with the N,N,N', N'-tetrasubstituted diaminocarbene in a high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the N,N,N',N'-tetrasubstituted amidinium salt comprises reacting the secondary amine with the carbon disulfide to synthesize an N,N,N',N'-tetrasubstituted thiourea and then subjecting the synthesized thiourea to desulfurization reaction. The method for producing the N,N,N',N'-tetrasubstituted diaminocarbene comprises subjecting the N,N,N',N '-tetrasubstituted amidinium salt to deprotonation reaction. The method for producing the transition metal complex coordinated with the N,N,N',N'- tetrasubstituted diaminocarbene comprises contacting the diaminocarbene with a transition metal complex.
