PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device in which the dependence of the degree of a black background on the angle or temperature can be suppressed without influencing the durability or low temperature response property of the liquid crystal and high-quality liquid crystal display with excellent contrast can be performed. SOLUTION: A polarizing plate 21 is disposed with its polarization axis 21a almost parallel or perpendicular to the rubbing direction 16a of one alignment film 16. A color layer 22 with >=25% luminosity transmittance and the following chromaticity is formed between a light source 14 and one polarizing plate 21. The chromaticity of the color layer 22 is in the range satisfying 0.18<=x<=0.27 and 0.22<=y<=0.33 for the x and y coordinates in the CIE chromaticity diagram. |
