PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a stainless steel pipe for exhaust gas pipe by which, even if a stainless steel sheet containing 13-16 mass% Cr is used as a stock, its critical pipe expanding rate can be increased as compared with that in the case of the conventional manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A cast slab of steel containing 13-16 mass% Cr is subjected, in succession, to hot rolling, annealing and cold rolling. The resultant steel sheet is formed into a cylindrical shape, and the respective edges, abutting each other, of the steel sheet are welded together. In this method of manufacturing the stainless steel pipe for exhaust gas pipe, the annealing is performed at 900-1,100 deg.C.
