PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems in a conventional electric power steering device such that a failure of a drive inhibit signal is erroneously judged and it is impossible to judge whether a drive inhibit change-over signal is normal or not. SOLUTION: A steering torque detected by a torque sensor 1 and a motor current outputted by a motor driving means 5 using a motor drive signal formed by a CPU 13 from the steering torque are inputted into a drive inhibit means 14, which outputs a drive inhibit signal and a drive inhibit change-over signal based on the relation of two inputted signals, and the CPU 13 detects a failure of the drive inhibit means 14 based on these outputs to control in such a way that a motor current becomes zero when the failure is detected.
