PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrying device provided in an image reading device or the like for carrying sheets capable of simplifying structure of a change-over means to reverse its carrying direction, and reducing manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: This carrying device comprises a carrying means provided with a discharge roller 31 rotatable normally, and an inverse rotation roller 32 rotatable inversely, and a press roller 33 movable to get in press-contact with either of the rollers 31 and 32 of the carrying means under pressure, or get in contact with neither of the rollers 31 and 32. By getting the press roller 33 in contact with the discharge roller 31 or the inverse rotation roller 32, the sheets can be carried either normally or inversely. Between the inverse rotation roller 32 and the discharge roller 31, an oscillatable document guide member 36 is provided, and the sheets are guarded by the document guide member 36 to be prevented from getting in contact with the roller 31 or 32 to which the press roller 33 is not applied.
