LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE AND METHOD OF ITS MANUFACTURE

PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal display device whose manufacturing cost is reduced by automatically and easily forming a light shielding film provided on a peripheral part of one substrate which constitutes a liquid crystal display element. CONSTITUTION: In the liquid crystal display device provided with a liquid crystal layer, a first substrate having a first surface where plural pixel electrodes are disposed in a matrix shape, a second substrate superposed on the first substrate across the liquid crystal layer so that a first surface of the second substrate is opposed to the first surface of the first substrate and a sealing member provided at a peripheral part of the first and the second substrates, enclosing the region where the liquid crystal layer exists and fixing the first and the second substrates, the first substrate has a light shielding film on at least one side of the peripheral part of a second surface. The region where the light shielding film is formed contains the region in which the sealing member is formed on the second surface of the first substrate and the light shielding film is constituted of polyester resin to which black pigment is added.
