PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum alloy sheet having excellent foil rollability (suitable strength and elongation), surface treating characteristics (of being free from the generation of surface patterns) and formability (of being free from the generation of surface roughening), and to provide its production method. SOLUTION: In this aluminum alloy sheet having a composition containing Fe and Si, and the balance Al with inevitable impurity elements, (1) the content of Fe solid solution is <50 ppm, (2) the surface layer region from the sheet surface to a depth of at least 20μm has a cold rolling worked structure satisfying the following conditions of (A) and (B): (A) the crystal grain width sD in a direction orthogonal to the rolling direction is <50μm by the average value and also <100μm by the maximum value and (B) the crystal grain length sL in the rolling direction is >=5 times the above crystal grain width sD, (3) the crystal grain width cD in a direction orthogonal to the rolling direction in the core region with a thickness in >=2/3 of the sheet thickness in the central part of the sheet thickness is >=100μm by the average value, and (4) its sheet thickness is controlled to 0.1 to 2 mm, and tensile strength to 145 to <200 MPa.
