PURPOSE: A method for improving a receiver performance of a network aided global positioning system(GPS) receiver is provided, which improves a GPS signal scanning sensitivity by maintaining a summing time of a coarse acquisition code and a navigation data bit for a constant time. CONSTITUTION: According to the method, it is judged whether a present time is scanned using a TLM(Telemetry Word)/HOW(Hand-Over Word) summing method, using present CDMA/GPS information(410). When the present time is not be scanned using the TLM/HOW summing method, a scanning starts using the TLM/HOW summing method after waiting until the scanning using the TLM/HOW summing method is possible(420). It is checked whether a signal scanning succeeds after the TLM/HOW scanning starts(430). If the scanning succeeds, the operation ends because the scanning of the GPS signal need not any more. If the signal scanning fails, a summing time is lengthened by requesting additional navigation data bit to a base station(440).
