PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a braking device for a spindle designed to surely apply braking pressure onto the spindle and also raise the abrasion resistance of the spindle. SOLUTION: This braking device for a spindle mounted with a brake shoe, having a brake lever acting to butt or set the brake shoe against or apart from the barrel of the spindle and functioning to brake the spindle by pressing the brake shoe via the brake bar against the barrel of the spindle, is characterized by that the brake shoe 9 is made of a rigid resin and the brake lever 8b is provided with grips 8g and 8g functioning to receive the brake shoe 9 through elastic deformation in mounting it and grip it by restorative force after received it.
