PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a containment vessel whose strength is maintained as a whole, which reduces the generation of a crack or a fracture even in an accident and whose safety can be ensured. SOLUTION: The containment vessel 1 is provided with a cylindrical liner 3 composed of a steel plate, an intermediate tube 4 which is installed at the outside of the liner 3 and which is composed of a steel plate, an outer tube 5 which is installed at the outside of the intermediate tube 4 and which is composed of a steel plate, concrete layers 6, 7 and shelf boards 10 which partition the steel plates and the concrete layers into a plurality of blocks. The liner 3 is formed in a prescribed thickness which is thinner than the intermediate tube 4 and the outer tube 5.
