PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a latent image carrier where an area having different characteristic from that of the periphery can be formed in an optional pattern with good positioning accuracy and a mark for positioning, a pattern for correcting an exposing dot position or the like can be formed. SOLUTION: On this latent image carrier 1 mounted in the image forming device and forming an electrostatic latent image by exposure, the areas 1A and 1B having the different characteristics from that of the periphery are irreversibly formed in the optional pattern by radiating an active energy beam in the optional pattern. The different characteristics from those of the periphery on the latent image carrier means light sensitivity, color tone, conductivity and surface energy or the like. An ultraviolet ray or an electron beam or the like are used as the active energy beam and radiated onto the latent image carrier in the optional pattern by photoengraving technique or beam scanning or the like, so that the areas 1A and 1B having the different characteristics from those of the periphery are irreversibly formed.
