PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine oil composition very excellent in reducing fuel consumption. SOLUTION: The composition comprises a lubricant base oil and (A) 0.03-0.2 mass% of zinc dithiophosphate in terms of the amount of phosphorus, (B) 0.1-1 mass% of a metallic detergent as sulphuric ash, (C) 0.5-20 mass% of an imide succinate-based ashless dispersant, (D) and 0.03-0.15 mass%, in terms of the amount of molybdenum, of one or more organic molybdenum compounds selected from the group consisting of molybdenum dithiophosphate and molybdenum dithiocarbamate, wherein the mass ratio (M/Mo) of the amount M of the metal in component (B) and the amount Mo of the molybdenum in component (D) is 0.5-2.5, with the said percentages relative to the total amount of the composition.
