<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which detects defects of a thermal head by a simple method without interrupting printing during printing, thereby preventing the thermal head from being broken, burnt out or the like by heating of a heater, and a communication device or an information processor using the same. SOLUTION: The printer 7 is provided with a defect-detecting means 30. When printing data whereby one whole line is made blank is inputted to the thermal head 20, a transistor 33 for short-circuiting a current detection resistor 32 is turned to an OFF state concurrently with printing the blank line, and the current detection resistor 32 is energized. A current value running to each heater 25 is compared with a preliminarily set comparison signal 41 in the order of a first - a fourth strobes 26-29 which divide a heater array 21 of the thermal head 20. Defects of the thermal head 20 are detected from the comparison results.</p> |
