PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus in which a recording medium under carriage is protected against damage. SOLUTION: When a plain paper is used as a recording medium 12, the plain paper is protected against damage even if the plain paper slides on a platen 14 when it is carried in the direction of arrow A. On the other hand, the plain paper is susceptible to cocking. Consequently, a controller 32 controls a suction fan 30 to turn when the plain paper is carried or printed. When a back print film is used as the recording medium 12, the back print film slides on the platen 14 during carriage and is susceptible to damage. Furthermore, cockling does not take place in the film material and a paper does not float because of its high rigidity. The controller 32 thereby controls the suction fan 30 to stop when the back print film is carried or printed.
