PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for drafting a press width of a hot slab capable of restraining the generation of unilateral elongation without causing an increase of heating costs or without lowering productivity when the width drafting is performed over the whole length of the hot slab by the press unit provided with a pair of dies from side to side. SOLUTION: The unilateral elongation is restrained by adjusting a frictional condition between the die and the hot slab. Specifically, the surface configuration of the die and the supply conditions of the lubricant to the die are adjusted so that the frictional coefficient between a die to press the end section of comparatively higher temperature and the hot slab becomes larger than the frictional coefficient between a die to press the other end section of comparatively lower temperature in the width direction both ends section of the hot slab and the hot slab.
