The device for altering the valve gear timings of an internal combustion engine is a coupling gear (7) with a first driving coupler (12) pivot-mounted on the first camshaft (5), a driven coupler (14) pivot-mounted on the second camshaft (6), and an interconnecting intermediate coupler (16), with all three couplers each being in the form of two identically constructed and parallel disposed plates (18-23) which like drive chain links are interconnected only by the ends of the camshafts and/or via the pivots (13,15) of intermediate wheels (10,11) upon which is mounted the intermediate coupler.
