A device for the generation of electrical energy by the piezoelectric effect has several piezoelectric converters and an electronic circuit tapping off the voltage generated by the piezoelectric converters. The device has at least one operating device which is operable by the hand or foot of a person operating the device. The operating device drives the movable parts of the device directly or via a gearbox. The piezoelectric converters (1) are arranged around a gearwheel (2) located on a shaft in an outer part (3). The teeth (4) of the gearwheel compress the piezoelectric converters periodically and/or repeatedly upon the rotation of the shaft.
