PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head device of a ram type machine tool causing no change in the dynamic rigidity regardless of an advance position or a retreat position of a main spindle head part (a ram) to a work. SOLUTION: In this ram type machine tool 100 having a saddle 10 supported so as to be liftable in the vertical Y axis direction on a column 1 and a head (the ram) 20 provided in this saddle and advancing and retreating in the longitudinal and horizontal direction, the front sides 10A and 10B in the saddle 10 are supported by a pair of main sliding guides 40 laid on the front both sides 1A and 1B of the column, and the rear side 10C in the saddle is supported by a sub-sliding guide 60 laid on at least one side in a rear part 1C of the column.
