PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a photocatalyst that can exhibit high activity upon irradiation with visible rays, to provide a method for producing the same, and to obtain a photocatalytic coating agent containing the same. SOLUTION: There is provided a photocatalyst consisting of titanium oxide and a metal oxide having an acid site and being other than titanium oxide and having a BET(Brunauer/Emmett/Teller) specific surface area of at least 55 m2/g.
