PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for forming an image by which a problem on handling and adhesivity of a thin base material in the conventional systems is solved. SOLUTION: A recording medium with a coloring material transfer layer which can be solved and evaporated by heat energy on a base material is fitted on a rotating drum. While this rotating drum is rotated at a specified speed, regions corresponding to non-image parts of the recording medium are irradiated with a laser light to remove the coloring material transfer layer of the regions corresponding to non-image parts from the recording medium. The pattern of the coloring material left on the recording medium is transferred on a paper.
