LOWER STRAIN OF MIN 6 CELL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insulin-secreting cell strain which can resist to repeated successive subcultures and consistently maintain original functions. SOLUTION: This cell strain obtained from MIN 6 cell strain, characterized by increasing insulin secretion rate in response to the concentration of glucose in a glucose concentration range of 5 to 25 mmol/L in a culture medium, when incubated in an HEPES equilibrium Krebs-Ringer bicarbonate buffer solution containing the glucose and 0.5% bovine serum albumin and having pH 7.4 at 37 deg.C for 2 hr, and having an insulin secretion rate of 4±2 mU/hr/mg cell protein in a glucose concentration of 5 mmol/L and an insulin secretion rate of 25±5 mU/hr/mg cell protein in a glucose concentration of 25 mmol/L.
