PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology capable of providing information on a sheet without using a complicated detecting mechanism and capable of controlling printing including at least adjustment of a platen gap. SOLUTION: A recording device, which allows ink to be ejected onto the sheet according to printing data for the purpose of forming an image on the sheet, is provided with a printing mechanism 100 for doing printing, a means (corresponding to a sheet information readout device 168) for obtaining the information on the sheet, which is realized by a printing control part 160, and a means (for controlling the printing) for controlling the formation of the image in the printing mechanism 100. The means for controlling the formation of the image can determine the platen gap according to the information on the sheet, which is obtained by the means for obtaining the information the sheet, and indicate to the platen gap adjusting mechanism 190 of the printing mechanism 100 to perform an adjustment such that the platen gap is taken as the determined gap.
