The shaft's spaced-apart ends are contained in a housing by means of a linear ball bearing each. The pre-tensioned linear ball bearings consist of a sleeve (9) which has a radially inward pointing rim at each end between which is a tubular cage (11) with bearing-balls (14). The balls' tracks (12,17) are formed by the shaft and by the inner casing surface of the sleeve. The shaft is a gear-shift shaft (3) in a gear-housing (1) for a cog wheel alternating gear.
