PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for driving a plasma display panel(PDP) are provided, which enables a high speed driving and also minimizes a power consumption. CONSTITUTION: During an address period of the PDP, a scan pulse(Vs) is applied sequentially to a scan/sustain electrode line(Y), and an assistant data pulse(ADP) and a main data pulse(MDP) are supplied to an address electrode line(X) by being synchronized to the scan pulse supplied to the scan/sustain electrode line. When the data pulse of logic value '1' is applied to address electrode line, the main data pulse having a small width(Td) is applied, and if the logic value of the data pulse is '0', the main data pulse is not applied. Also, when the main data pulse is applied, the assistant data pulse having a width(Tad) narrower than the main data pulse is applied before and after the main data pulse. The scan pulse applied to the scan/sustain electrode line is divided into a main scan pulse(MSP) having a width(Tad+Td=Ts) and an assistant scan pulse(ASP) having a width of the assistant data pulse. The main scan pulse is applied to the scan/sustain electrode line in sequence, and the assistant scan pulse is applied in advance to the main scan pulse. |
