PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a auxiliary cover open automatically in accordance with the tilt of a molten steel pan to prevent the damage to the castable caused by the contact with slag, when the molten steel pan is tilted for discharging the slag, in a pan cover equipped to the molten steel pan for keeping the temperature of the molten pan, and provided with the auxiliary cover capable of opening/closing. SOLUTION: One link 16a of links 16a, 16b linked with a hinge 14 is fixed to a cover body 13 and other link 16b is fixed to the auxiliary cover 15 respectively. When the molten steel pan 12 is tilted by 70-80 deg., the auxiliary cover is opened automatically so that the center of gravity of the auxiliary cover 15 and the link 16b is separated from the molten steel pan 12 to position on the vertical line passing through the hinge 14, and when the molten steel pan 12 is tilted to the vicinity of 85 deg., the flowing out of the slag is started. At this time, the auxiliary cover is opened sufficiently to prevent the contact of the castable with the slag.
