The invention relates to an optical recording medium having a recording film comprising a phase-change type recording material. A recording film (4) of the optical recording medium is made from chalcopyrite type compound, and a first protective film (3) and a second protective film (5) are formed by a mixed film containing ZnS and SiO2. By forming at least one of the protective films with nitrogen contained therein, the recording/erasing repeatability characteristic of the optical recording medium are improved.
