PURPOSE: A method for automatically detecting a telephone number in a portable phone is provided to automatically store previously used phone numbers in the memory of a portable phone and to display a phone number on the screen when a user inputs a partial number of the phone number. CONSTITUTION: Based on the phone numbers stored in a memory part, a user inputs an identification number through an input part(200). A CPU analyzes association with the stored phone numbers for the inputted identification(210). Based on a control signal from the CPU, a display part displays the phone numbers consistent with the first place of the identification number(220). The user confirms the phone numbers outputted on the screen of the display part and judges whether a desired phone number exists(230). In case that a desired phone number exists, the user selects the desired number using the cursor, pushes a SEND key, and makes a phone call(240,250).
