PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a coating film suitable for use in a three-wet one-bake coating method which aims at the shortening of a coating process, cost saving and diminution in influence on the environmental and capable of forming a multilayer coating film free of yellowing and having excellent appearance. SOLUTION: The method for forming a coating film includes a step (1) for coating the top of a body to be coated with a waterbase coating material to form a coating film and a step (4) for curing the coating film by heating. The waterbase coating material contains a dispersion prepared by dispersing a component containing a solvent type thermosetting resin in water with a nonionic dispersant and/or a cationic dispersant.
