Purifying condensate-containing pyrolysis gases in a waste pyrolysis plant comprises carrying out the purification in the discharge housing (7b) of the plant directly after separating the solids and gas. An Independent claim is also included for a purification device comprising known filter candles made either from ceramic or metallic material, or a filter housing (26) made from ceramic or metallic fabric in different shapes and bodies. Preferred Features: The pyrolysis gas has a velocity of less than 1 m/s. Vapor, nitrogen, compressed flue gas (compressed air containing only 10% O2) or normal compressed air is used as the purifying medium. The material of the filter housing for reducing the pressure loss is made from a metal sieve having a mesh width of 0.05-1, preferably 0.1-0.6 mm.
