Gas sensor, especially a lambda sensor has a ceramic sensor body (1) arranged in a protective housing open to measuring gas and enclosed by an electrical heater (5) within the housing. The body is heated to e.g. 400 deg C and held at this temperature. Preferred Features: The heater brings the sensor body to the operating temperature and holds it at that temperature. The sensor body is arranged as a support of the heater. The heater encloses the sensor body at a distance. The heater is made from a material which is resistant to temperature jumps. The sensor body is provided with its own heater.
