A procedure for the detection of short-circuit arcs and overcurrents on a circuit (16) with a number of pole conductors (26) has the step for the determination of a current of a pole conductor by using a sensor (50,52) to be found not in contact with the pole conductor. The step for the determination of a current contains the step for the use of a Hall effect sensor. Furthermore with the step for the determination of currents of two pole conductors by using two sensors, each sensor is provided in correspondence to one of the pole conductors. The step for the supply of the earth fault circuits and the two overcurrent detection circuits with energy contains the step for the use of whole wave energy supply.
