PURPOSE: A VC squelching method in a synchronous optical transmission system is provided to achieve a rapid squelching in real time by efficiently implementing a VC squelching algorithm in the MS-SPRING(Multiplex Section-Switched Protection RING) process of an SDH(Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) transmission equipment. CONSTITUTION: In case that a squelching condition is confirmed due to a node fail or a ring split in configuring a ring between each nodes, an SDH system confirms whether a squelching node is in a switching state or in a pass-through state(ST21,ST22). In case that one of the nodes on the ring is in the switching state, an adjacent node searches a VC squelching table and squelches a channel from which VC signals related to the relevant node are dropped(ST23-ST25).
