PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer and means for avoiding contact with a recording medium and its fixing method in which the print face of a recording medium can be protected against damage. SOLUTION: An ink jet printer comprising a print head for printing information onto a recording medium by ejecting ink drops, a drive roller and a driven roller for feeding the recording medium from the supply side to the print side while clamping, a sub-drive roller 117 and a toothed roller 118 for feeding the recording medium from the print side to the discharge side while clamping is further provided with means 120 for avoiding contact of the recording medium with the toothed roller. Consequently, even a recording medium into which the teeth of the toothed roller bite to disable printing can be printed.
