<p>A cover assembly (52) for an air bag unit (54) comprises:(a) an outer skin (56) having a smooth outer surface, (b) a tear seam (58) that is significantly weaker than the rest of the outer skin (56), and having an H-shaped configuration conforming to an outlet from the air bag unit, (c) a filler strip (92) bonded to the outer skin (56) to form a smooth uninterrupted outer surface, and (d) a parting agent (87) of wax or silicone between the filler strip (92) and the outer skin (56) to ensure that they will separate on deployment of the air bag. Also claimed is a method and apparatus (10) for producing the cover assembly (52).</p> |
