Selvedges are formed on the side opposite to that of the gripper entry in gripper weaving looms in that the weft loops formed by the reciprocating gripper on the opposite sides are passed in succession through one another and interlocked with one another in the form of a wale. Wale is formed by a waft catching needle reciprocated along the selvedge in synchronism with the gripper.
