Sliding clasp fastener - having teeth formation secured to backing tape as it is formed

The backing tape may be woven knitted or chain knitted and a linear profiled plastic filament is formed into a helical formation as the backing tape is formed and is locked into the fabric during its formation to define a row of teeth. The synthetic filament is pref. advanced in the wasp direction and during picking a reciprocating hook engages the filament and forms it into a loop so that the median part of the loop is trapped between the warp and weft and the bend of the loop extends from the edge of the tape. The filament may be advanced inwardly of the edge of the warp and pulled outwardly by the hook or vice-versa. The teeth formation is accurately and securely fixed to the backing tape.
