SYSTEM FOR THE REMOVAL OF TOTAL NITROGEN(T-N) FROM WASTEWATER

PURPOSE: A system for removing total nitrogen(T-N) from wastewater is provided, which is characterized in that a chemical decomposition unit is additionally installed in conventional air stripping process to meet with reinforced environmental regulation guideline on total nitrogen discharge(60 mg/L). This process is operated on the basis of filtration/air stripping mode, however in the case that wastewater with high nitrogen concentration is introduced into this system, wastewater is directed to air stripping tower via chemical decomposition tower. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises a tank(10) which stores raw wastewater; a rapid sand filtration tower(20); a pH control tank(30) into which NaOH solution is injected to adjust hydrogen-ion concentration of filtered wastewater up to about pH 12; an air stripping tower(40) consisting of an outer case(41) and an inner case(42) that is packed with Raschig Ring(45); a chemical decomposition tower(60) into which a chemical additive(Decoage C) is injected to eliminate a large quantity of T-N, more specifically organic nitrogen.
