PURPOSE: A method for duplicating handlers in an exchange is provided to smoothly process the data of a sub highway channel by making a neighboring handler execute the functions of a fault handler, in case that a trouble is generated from one among many handlers. CONSTITUTION: Each handler judges whether an FS(Frame Synchronous) signal is inputted from a sub highway(S100). If the FS signal is not detected, each handler judges whether a preset time elapsed(S110). In case that the preset time remains, each handler repeats the detection of the FS signal. If a handler fails to detect the FS signal during the preset time, a control part displays a relevant trouble state through a display part(S120). However, in case that each handler detects the FS signal, each handler judges whether a clock signal is detected(S130). If each handler detects the clock signal, the control part recognizes each FS signal and clock signal(S140) and judges whether each handler works normally without generating a trouble(S150). In case that each handler works normally, the control part allocates a time slot or a channel to each handler and processes the data of each time slot or channel(S160).
