PURPOSE: A method for treating asbestos waste is provided which not only treats the asbestos waste safely and inexpensively, but also has not any problems handling treatment of residual of the asbestos waste. CONSTITUTION: The method for treating asbestos waste comprises the processes of injecting asbestos waste into an opened container(1) so that the asbestos waste is stored and recovered by closing a cover(12) of the opened container; and charging the opened container along with steelmaking raw materials such as scraps into a steelmaking electric furnace so that the whole opened container is melted and treated, wherein a pressure opening device(13) for opening the internal pressure is equipped at the opened container, the pressure opening device comprises an adhesive tape(13b) adhered onto a hole part(13a) formed on the opened container and a synthetic resin cap(13d) attached onto a hole part(13c) formed on the opened container, the asbestos waste is injected into the opened container by moisturizing the asbestos waste, and the opened container is an opened container made of a magnetic metallic material such as iron.
