PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for controlling a transmission speed of a reverse traffic channel in a wireless data transmission system is provided to enable a terminal generating the activity of traffic to control the activity by providing a transmission speed increasing timer to the terminal, by driving the timer in case that the terminal increases the transmission speed, and by reducing the transmission speed of a packet to be transmitted in case that the activity bit is received to the terminal with a congestion condition. CONSTITUTION: A new packet to be transmitted is temporarily stored in a buffer. In case that an activity control bit is received from a base station to an activity control channel receiving unit, the activity control bit is inputted to a transmission speed controller. The transmission speed controller judges whether the activity bit received is high or low. In case that the activity bit is high, a present traffic is recognized as an activity state. In case that the activity bit is low, the present traffic isn't recognized as the activity state. In case that the activity bit is low, a random number between 0 and 1 is generated. After that, a value of the random number is compared with that of a previous persistence. In case that the transmission speed is changed, a transmission speed increasing timer is driven. Packet data stored in the buffer are transmitted to the base station through a reverse traffic channel. In case that the value of the random number is higher, a present transmission speed is maintained. |
