PURPOSE: A defrosting device for heat pump type air conditioner and control method of the same are provided to be added to an outdoor heat exchanger for efficient defrosting operation. CONSTITUTION: A device comprises a defrosting piping; an opening and closing device; and a control device. The defrosting piping is installed between a piping connected between a compressor and a four-way valve(55) and an outdoor heat exchanger. The four-way valve is installed on an outlet of the compressor to circulate refrigerant from a compressor to the outdoor heat exchanger and an indoor heat exchanger for cooling and heating operation, respectively. The opening and closing device is a solenoid valve(82) installed on one side of the defrosting piping to open and close according to temperature of the outdoor heat exchanger. The control device comprises a temperature sensor(86); and a control part(88) to determine whether the opening and closing device is to be opened or closed.
