A system and method for the differential diagnosis of heart disease in a patient; involving attaching a 12 lead EKG machine to the patient; outputting leads II and V5 to an EMPI device for the creation of a frequency domain based initial diagnosis; outputting the frequency domain based initial diagnosis; creating a visual display of time domain based events output from the EKG machine; inspecting the visual display and creating a time domain based initial diagnosis; combining the time domain based initial diagnosis and frequency domain based initial diagnosis together; and from said combination determining a complete differential diagnosis of heart disease in the patient. Additionally shown is an automatic pattern recognition engine by which waveform patterns for known diagnoses are compared against time domain based waveform events., and the known diagnosis is output with the time domain based initial diagnosis and frequency domain based initial diagnosis. The frequency domain based diagnosis is selected from the group consisting of normal/borderline, ischemic heart disease (including CAD), and other cardiac conditions. The complete diagnosis is selected from the group consisting of CAD, CAD with infarction, CAD with ischemia due to other causes, ischemia due to other causes, and normal/borderline. |
